Taking advantage of a cheap fare to visit the United States after election season

This will be my second trip to the United States and I will be documenting my travel planning journey in a series of short blogs :D

Finding a cheap flight

There are excellent fares to the United States from Singapore for the upcoming year-end holidays. If you have a large family with kids and you can't book everyone using miles, do look at the deals below.

I've found flights to several gateway cities for slightly over 1000SGD on economy. Here's what I found for flights to San Francisco:

Here's a flight to Los Angeles:

There's also a deal to New York:

If economy is too much for you to endure on a long flight to the United States, do consider giving yourself a treat on premium economy:

What did I book?

I took advantage of a promo code on Trip.com and booked myself on a return flight to San Francisco. If you are keen, the promo code is still available (as of writing, you have until 19 September) and you can enjoy the same deal.

This enabled me to book a return flight to San Francisco for just a sum of 970.10SGD.

Was it a good deal?

Short answer: Yes. 970.10SGD is really cheap, and is a good deal in itself. Furthermore, I earned 4MPD booking the flight using my UOB Lady's Solitaire Card. By crediting to Flying Blue, I will also earn 50% of the miles flown. When I purchased it from Trip.com, I clicked through Heymax, and by doing that, I earned 300 miles. In total, I'll earn more than 12000 miles from just paying 970.10SGD.

I was torn initially over whether to fly with Cathay Pacific or China Airlines. However, the lower fare (after the promo code), stopover at Taipei (since I haven't been to Taiwan in a decade), plus the opportunity to fly on China Airlines (I have never flown on China Airlines) swayed me to fly with China Airlines.

What's next?

I will be planning my itinerary. I have never been to the West Coast before, so I'm really looking forward to San Francisco. I'm also looking to travel to Peru, so if you have any suggestions for me, please leave them in the comments section below!

Do take advantage of the deals mentioned here and enjoy a great year-end trip :)
