Wondering what Mauritius has to offer? Look no further as I run you through some of the highlights of my trip!

Île aux Cerfs

Île aux Cerfs is a private island near the east coast of Mauritius with beautiful beaches. You can engage in a variety of activities, such as golf, exploring the island, chilling at the beach or enjoying water sports, such as parasailing, water skiing, and wake boarding etc.

Do not take the public boat to Île aux Cerfs. It is not the cheapest nor the most comfortable option. The public boat will cost you 800MRU (around $27SGD or $20USD) round trip.

Instead, drive to Pointe Maurice (I’m assuming you have a car) and take a short boat ride to Île aux Cerfs. You don’t need a prior reservation. Just drive to that point, there is a big car park there, park your car and tell the staff that you want to go to Île aux Cerfs. There is a boat departing approximately every 20-30 minutes, and I paid 450MRU for a round trip, with a drink included.

When you reach Île aux Cerfs, there will be a guide assigned to you and you will just need to let the guide know what activities you are interested in. The guide will arrange it for you. Be prepared to bargain! They accept the local currency and USD, or you can pay via credit card.

Underwater Waterfall

The Underwater Waterfall is worth a try if you are in Mauritius. This article can do a better job at explaining the phenomenon than I do, so read it if you are interested.

I viewed the Underwater Waterfall (below) via seaplane. I booked it via lagoonFLIGHT but there are other providers too. Once you have booked the flight, just drive to this location! Don't worry, you won't miss it because the seaplane will be parked just right by the beach.

Isn't the view of the underwater waterfall amazing?

Warning: The seaplane flight is not cheap. You may be underwhelmed by the experience, as it is short and you are just sitting on a plane viewing a water phenomenon / illusion. You will treasure this memory though!

Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark

I have never been to Vinicunca in Peru, otherwise known as Rainbow Mountain, but I was expecting Chamarel to be similar to Vinicunca. Chamarel is small, and I can only say that I don’t expect many locals to visit this attraction. Chamarel is still worth a visit (see picture below) but do manage your expectations!

Black River Gorges National Park

This is just okay, I’m not going to overly hype it up. I’m sure there are plenty of reviews out there that can provide you with the information you need if you do want to visit the park.

Caudan Waterfront

The Caudan Waterfront (below) is at Port Louis, the main city/town in Mauritius. It’s probably the most developed part of Mauritius, with a couple of malls, plenty of restaurants and cafes around.

The Caudan Waterfront is quite nice, and you should probably visit it later in the afternoon / early evening to fully enjoy it!

If you are at the Caudan Waterfront in the morning, you can take a short walk over to Central Market and Chinatown. That would be a good way to immerse yourself in the local way of life!

If you are renting a car and staying in Port Louis, you may want to ditch the car when heading over to Caudan Waterfront. You won’t find it easy to find parking there.

Conclusion

Mauritius is great if you just want to slow down and enjoy a different pace of life. A 3 day trip should be more than enough for you to visit all the attractions I listed here. I highly recommend spending a day just relaxing at Île aux Cerfs.

Renting a car in Mauritius is necessary as the attractions are spread across the island. Public transport is cheap, but not frequent and will not take you to the attractions. Use the right credit cards when making your rental car booking!
