[Trip Review] One Day in Glasgow

What would you do if you've only got a day in Glasgow?

I spent a Saturday in Glasgow, looking to immerse in the best that the city had to offer. Let me walk you through the highlights of my trip!

Attractions - Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a museum and art gallery in Glasgow, Scotland, situated in Kelvingrove Park. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is one of Scotland's most popular museums. Entrance is free. You'll also find the University of Glasgow not too far away.

The museum is home to several exhibitions, and it is impossible to cover all of them here. You can also catch a free organ recital from 13:00-13:30 every day. If you are a fan of museums, you'll love this attraction.

You can get to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum by taking the subway to Kelvingrove station; the attraction is just a 8 minutes walk away from the station.

Attractions - Glasgow Botanic Gardens

The Glasgow Botanic Gardens is another attraction that is free. The botanic gardens is a short walk away from Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Musuem. Alternatively, you can take the subway to visit the botanic gardens.

The botanic gardens is home to several glasshouses, with each glasshouse home to hundreds of different species of plants. Do expect to spend at least two hours at this attraction.

Attractions - Ibrox Stadium

Ibrox Stadium is home to Rangers F.C.; you can get to the stadium by taking the subway to Ibrox station. Rangers is one of the world's most successful football clubs, with a very large fan base. With that said, tickets to games are not hard to come by. When I visited on the day of a match, I could find tickets to the match on the club's official website.

Attractions - Glasgow Cathedral & Necropolis

Unlike the other attractions, you can't get to the Glasgow Cathedral & Necropolis by the subway. That shouldn't deter you from visiting these two attractions though.

Of the two, I'm a bigger fan of the Necropolis. The Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian cemetery, and it situated on top of a small hill, next to the Glasgow Cathedral. It os said that fifty thousand individuals have been buried here, but not all the individuals buried are name, and not every grave has a stone.

I've never visited a cemetery as an attraction before, but the Necropolis was really nice, and gives you a good bird's eye view of the city.

What should you eat at Glasgow?

If you are a fan of doughnuts, you should visit Doh! I had a pistachio doughnut, and I could immediately tell that the doughnut was handmade (perhaps with love :P).

If doughnuts are not your thing, then visit TheDorkyFrench for breakfast. This is a vegan bakery, so for all my vegan friends, you've got no excuse for not visiting this place.

I had the crispiest, most delicious pain suisse ever at TheDorkyFrench.

What's a good place for lunch or dinner? Head over to Margo!

Margo serves great food (after all this place won a Michelin Bib Gourmand), and prices are reasonable! I had the croquettes for £4, brussels sprouts for £6, and the cod with squid ink rice for £14.

Conclusion

Glasgow isn't Edinburgh or London, but despite that, there's something for everyone in Glasgow. Coupled with the fact that a day pass for the subway is only £4.45, you should be able to accomplish plenty with just a single day in Glasgow.
