[Restaurant Review] Sospiri - New Italian Restaurant in the Marina Bay area

Do we really need more Italian restaurants? Especially in the CBD? Check out what Sospiri brings to the crowded dining scene in Singapore!

DINING

8/23/2024

When I first set my sights on IOI Central Boulevard, and saw the two towers, I thought to myself, that looks like a great spot for a new rooftop bar. So that’s how I stumbled across Sospiri, a new concept by the ilLido Group.

Seating and Setup

Sospiri has two different seating formats; you can choose to dine inside the grand restaurant or dine outside at the rooftop bar, enjoying a pocket view of Marina Bay.

The Food

To start the meal, I was given a basket of focaccia to enjoy, served with a side of olive oil. The focaccia was warm, and that’s the attention to detail that I expect from a good restaurant. I hate it when I’m served cold bread. The focaccia was fluffy and soft, with a very crispy crust that was lightly seasoned with sprinkles of salt. This was a good start to the meal.

Next came the Fettuccine con la ‘Nduja, and this dish could have been so much more. The fettucine was slightly overcooked in my opinion, and while the sauce was rich with the taste of pork 'Nduja, and cheese, I didn’t really enjoy the dish as much as I wanted to.

The Ravioli alla Vaccinara was much better. The ravioli was well-cooked, and I loved how rich the filling was. If you enjoy the flavours of oxtail, I’m sure you will enjoy this ravioli. However, the sauce could have been more zesty and lighter to complement the strong flavours of the oxtail ravioli.

The Polpo alla Griglia was the best dish of the night. Everything worked well here, from how the octopus was cooked, to the sauce that complemented it. I like how I could enjoy a char-grilled taste of the octopus, despite it being so thinly-sliced.

I’m always excited for desserts and the Tiramisu was good but not outstanding. I think the layers of components worked well here, and I liked how the tiramisu was not too sweet but the mascarpone was not airy and light enough for me. The presentation is unique too!

They need to rethink about the serving size of the Tiramisu, and the pricing though. At $22, the portion size justifies the price tag, but I struggle to see how anyone can finish this on their own. If you come in a pair, don't order more than 1 dessert!

Conclusion

I would recommend Sospiri to anyone who wants to enjoy good, hearty Italian fare (I love the focaccia) in the Central Business District. Considering the location, I think Sospiri provides a good dining experience at an affordable price. The set lunches and dinners look to be great value and I will consider ordering them the next time I’m here.
