[Restaurant Review] The Ninth - Simple and Delicious
Don't leave London without visiting this gem of a restaurant!
LATESTDININGUNITED KINGDOM
The Ninth is centrally located on Charlotte Street in London. One would imagine The Ninth to be a white table-clothed restaurant, with prices befitting the prices of properties in central London. The Ninth however, has a relaxed, informal atmosphere, and a budget-friendly menu (as budget-friendly as Michelin-level dining can be).
If you are in London, don't miss out on The Ninth.
The Food
I had the set lunch at the Ninth, and ordered the crab & seaweed tartlet to start.

The tartlet is bursting with umami, but refreshing at the same time.

The seabream carpaccio was lovely. The seabream was tender, with the rhubarb and dill complementing the freshness of the fish. Do order this while you are at The Ninth. You can't go wrong with fresh fish that is wonderfully seasoned.

The main course of Hake was good. Hake is quite a forgiving fish when it comes to cooking it, as it is a mild, white fish with not much oil or fat. Hence, while the fish was tender and flaky, I would have preferred it if the chef treated the fish more aggressively; perhaps by seasoning it more, or even charring it slightly.
Special shoutout to the beans puree though, that was one of the best purees I had all year. The puree was smooth, luscious, and seasoned well.

I've saved the best for last. The pain perdu was crafted from house-made brioche, marinated in custard for long hours and fashioned in a cube. The bread was then fried in generous amounts of butter, and dusted in sugar before being blowtorched. The soft, cold ice cream complemented the crusty, warm bread perfectly. This was heavenly.
Conclusion
The Ninth serves probably the most affordable Michelin-starred meal in London, and is probably the best value restaurant in London as well. The food here is of high quality, and expertly handled.
The atmosphere is warm, and inviting. It doesn't feel like you are dining in a Michelin-starred restaurant, but at a neighbourhood-bistro instead.
If you do decide to pay The Ninth a visit, be sure to order the seabream carpaccio and the pain perdu.
